ThinkYoung, in cooperation with the MEP Marietje Schaake (ALDE), organised a debate at the European Parliament on 13 September on whether the Internet should win the Nobel Peace Prize 2010.
Marietje Schaake, hosted the debate and stated the importance of the internet in organizing opposition in repressive regimes. Riccardo Luna, editor of the Italian Wired and ambassador of the Internet For Peace Campaign, stressed that all those who use the Internet for peaceful means deserve the Prize. Brett Solomon co-founder and Executive Director of Access, a new global movement for digital freedom also joined the panel, as did Pierre-François Docquir, a post-doctorate researcher at the Centre Perelman for Legal Philosophy of the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), who also warned of the risks of the internet. Andrea Gerosa, chief thinker of ThinkYoung, added to the debate by suggesting free wireless all over Europe, allowing everybody on this continent to be part of the online community.
